Looking for houses with that je ne sais quoifeel, we found this stylish apartment for Home at Homes and were immediately sold on it. And that’s what will happen to you, because it takes a lot to resist the charms of a home like this: centrally located (in the calle Fuente del Berro, which is but steps away from the famous calle Alcalá and just eight minutes’ walk from the Retiro Park), spacious (three single bedrooms, one double bedroom, two full bathrooms, comfortable living areas, a pretty terrace…), and a unique style (showing the owners’ love of avant-garde and 20^thcentury design). In short, this apartment brings together functionality, convenience and that particular brand of aesthetics that our guests find so appealing.

Details matter in this home. It has been decorated with the utmost care, paying particular attention to the materials used and decorative elements employed, from the furniture and textiles, to the selection of photographs and illustrations on the walls. The result is a young and cheerful interior look, essentially contemporary, but dotted with artyeffects to encompass anything and everything: intense soirées, quality family time, or simply a quiet atmosphere in which to relax at will.

The entrance hall leads to a corridor which goes around all the rooms, in a sense creating a circular route to all the communal living areas and turning every corner into yet another sitting area.

The bright, cheerful living room overlooks the street from a pretty terrace which brings in natural light. It is divided into two areas, and the décor is a clear example of the unassuming, optimistic style of the rest of the property. To one side, a seating area with a Noguchi table, a sofa and designer lighting. Opposite this, a dining area for 6 with a set of CH24 chairs.

The corridor leads on to the kitchen, closed off by a glass panel door in rationalist style. This is one of the most charming rooms of the house, with cement tiles on the floor and a predominant theme of black, white and wood. It is of course equipped with high-spec white goods and electrical appliances, and has a large working area where you can enjoy cooking in company.

The master bedroom is equipped with a comfortable double bed and a large mirrored wardrobe, which visually amplifies the space and the light, in addition to providing excellent storage space for clothes and luggage. An en-suite bathroom provides added privacy and comfort, with a large rainfall shower as a touch of added luxury.

There are three single rooms decorated in a younger style, but sharing all the energy and optimism prevalent in the rest of the house, with comfortable beds and Nordic- and vintage-style auxiliary furniture and storage solutions.

A second full bathroom is also decorated in black and white, with metro-style wall tiling and a stand-alone bath on pretty, romantic-style legs.

Alcalá I is in the heart of the Barrio de Salamanca, one of the most exclusive areas in the centre of Madrid, steps away from the main sites of tourist interest and with excellent communication links, whether by underground or bus. To say nothing of the fashion shops, leisure venues and myriad bars and restaurants to be found in the area.

• Arrival and departure. Check-in is between 15:00 and 21:00; check-out by 11:00. Should you require to arrive or leave earlier or later, you must request this at the time of the booking. We will endeavour to accommodate your request; however, this will depend on availability, and an additional fee may be incurred.
• Cancellations. Cancelling more than 14 days prior to your arrival date will entitle you to a full refund. Cancelling between 7 and 14 days prior to arrival will entitle you to a refund of 50% and cancelling between 2 and 7 days will entitle you to a refund of 25%. Cancellations made less than 2 days in advance of the planned arrival date will mean that no refund can be given, and the full rental amount will be withheld.
  
• Additional information. The minimum stay we have in Madrid is 5 nights, and 7 nights over the Christmas period. The property is fully equipped, including high quality bedlinen and towels.
