"An apartment for two in a fabulous Sevillian patio house renovated in contemporary style."
Travelling alone or with your partner? Are you looking for somewhere different, discreet, of fascinating interior design? Do you want to stay in the very heart of Seville? You have come to the ideal place. At Home at Homes, we have done the work for you and can now offer you one of our most recent discoveries: an elegant duplex apartment in a Sevillian patio house where the interior design reigns supreme. A home you would not expect in the charming square of Plaza de las Mercedarias, in the historical centre of Seville, just steps away from the most iconic monuments the city has to offer. And if you just can’t keep the secret and want to travel with friends, the good news is that the same building houses a very similar apartment, Plaza de las Mercedarias I, so that you can stay together, whilst maintaining your privacy and independence.
The building on the outside is a traditional period Sevillian house. The surprise comes when you step inside. The renovation project carried out focused on keeping the original architectural features (such as high ceilings, large windows, the interior patio or courtyard) to provide a large, spacious, open plan distribution. The qualities and materials used do the rest: marble, sandstone and light-coloured stuccoed walls provide a bright, airy background to enhance the sense of natural light streaming in from the patio and the skylight up above. This sense of uninterrupted space makes for a peaceful, quasi monastic atmosphere. No stress here! But if you need some energising, there is the bold mix of colour of carpets and textiles, and the kitchen itself, an expressive red which becomes part of the décor.
The entrance leads to the main living area, which opens onto the patio with its mix of Mediterranean and tropical plants providing a sense of freshness. This fabulous living and dining space is decorated in a combination of styles which blend together effortlessly. Contemporary coffee tables, antique French-style furniture, Gustavian armchairs, a plush, modern sofa… There is a sitting area with TV, a spectacular glass and steel dining table seating six, with Spanish-style chairs upholstered in a dramatic crimson colour, and a fully equipped, minimalist style kitchen in brilliant red. No lack of boldness here! There is also a full bathroom with shower on this lower level.
The upper level guarantees the perfect rest for you. A double bedroom decorated with furniture in a mixture of styles, from the oriental bedside tables and chest of drawers, to neoclassical hardwood armchairs and a sumptuous, modern bed. Luxury is complete with the spacious en-suite bathroom with rainfall shower.
Plaza de las Mercedarias is a quiet setting where several streets of the Centre-Santa Cruz de Sevilla district come together, on the doorstep of the main sites of tourist and cultural interest and therefore the perfect starting point for exploring the Jewish quarter, enjoying a walk through the narrow streets to take in traditional Sevillian domestic architecture, the wealth of churches and steeples, and the best of local cuisine. The property’s strategic location allows you to take in all that the city has to offer on foot, strolling from the María Luisa park to the cathedral, through the historical centre, along the banks of the Guadalquivir river or the Barrio de Santa Cruz, as well as the most interesting sites located outside the old city walls. Ultimately, all the diversity of Seville’s urban landscape at your feet.
